Aussie Aviary conceptual drawing

Aussie Aviary

This new, interactive free-flight aviary will allow guests to get up close and personal with colorful budgies and even feed them!

The aviary will be located within the Australian Walkabout's existing footprint in an area that has housed a variety of birds in the past. The habitat is designed to allow guests to view the birds along the Australian Walkabout deck or through a unique and interactive experience inside the aviary.

This project is fully funded by FOTAZ, with support from corporate and private donors.

hurricane damage to cougar habitat

Hurricane Recovery

Hurricanes Laura and Delta caused severe damage across Alexandria Zoo. Several animal habitats including the cougar, cassowary, Australian Walkabout, maned wolf and Chinese alligator were extensively damaged. All affected animals except the maned wolves (temporarily in a non-public area) and cougars (temporarily at Baton Rouge Zoo) are viewable in other locations throughout the Zoo while we rebuild. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Alexandria Zoo's support oraganization, Friends of the Alexandria Zoo, a 501c3 non-profit, to aid in our recovery efforts.
