Alexandria Zoo’s mission is to positively impact wildlife andwild places for future generations by providing experiences for all ages that inspire pro-conservation action through opportunities that are fun, engaging, and inspirational.

Alexandria Zoo has been a continuously accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums since 1986, and is the area's #1 year-round family attraction.

Who We Are

Since 1922, Alexandria Zoological Park has shared the wonders of the natural world with generations of zoo-goers.

Through recreational, educational and cultural opportunities, the Zoo strives to inspire and connect people of all ages with wildlife and wild places.

As part of our mission, Alexandria Zoo supports conservation programs both locally and globally and is home to more than 35 threatened and endangered species.

City of Alexandria

The City of Alexandria has owned and operated the Alexandria Zoo since 1922. The Zoo operates under the Public Works Division of the City.

FOTAZ

Friends of the Alexandria Zoo

FOTAZ was formed in 1971 by a group of concerned citizens. Funds raised by FOTAZ go toward Alexandria Zoo improvements, programs, conservation efforts and more.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), founded in 1924, is the world's largest professional organization representing zoological parks, aquariums, wildlife parks, and their staff members.
