Volunteers

Volunteers play an essential role in fulfilling Alexandria Zoo's mission!

Do you care about the Alexandria Zoo, love animals, or have a passion for supporting conservation work? Find your place among other like minded volunteers as a part of the Alexandria Zoo’s Volunteer Team. The volunteer team provides adults and teens (age 16 and older) long-term volunteer opportunities to support the zoo in a meaningful way.

Interested in more opportunities? Consider specializing in the following roles…

Interpretive Volunteers receive additional training on how to connect zoo guests with the natural world and support the zoo's conservation education mission. If you love connecting with people or sharing facts about wildlife this could be a great fit for you.

Animal Handlers are trained to work closely with the Education Team’s Ambassador Animals. Ambassador Animals enhance the facilities conservation messaging through up close opportunities with guest to help inspire pro-conservation action. Once trained, you can provide support educators during programs by handling the animal, lead pop-up encounters for our guests, or work with the animals behind the scenes by providing enrichment opportunities that enhance their daily activities.
