Volunteers play an essential role in fulfilling Alexandria Zoo's mission!

Volunteers donate hundreds of hours of their time, talents and energy in support of the Zoo. We're looking for adults and teens (age 16 and older) with great people skills and a love for animals and conservation.

Interpretive Volunteers

Interpretive volunteers are our frontline educators and assist zoo staff with education programs such as on-site animal encounters, field trip and outreach programs, tours, birthday parties, classes, and events. Their main responsibility is to connect zoo guests with the natural world and support the zoo's conservation education mission.

Green Team

Green Team volunteers are vital to keeping the zoo grounds looking colorful all year long! Duties include planting, pruning, weeding, watering, and all forms of plant maintenance. These volunteers may assist the maintenance team with repairs and construction as needed.

Here are a few requirements for applicants:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be willing to donate at least 60 hours of service throughout the year
  • Attend applicable training sessions (no make-up sessions are held)
  • Pay a $25 registration fee
