One Day, One Time Volunteer
Want to help the zoo but can't commit long-term? Alexandria Zoo welcomes corporate teams, clubs, and individuals for high-impact, one-time volunteer projects! Assist our staff during major events like Zoo Boo or help us tackle vital grounds maintenance. It's a fantastic way to team-build and provide a valuable gift of your time to the zoo.

Zoo Crew (On-going Volunteer)
Members of our volunteer team enhance our daily operations and ensure every visitor has an engaging experience. By sharing your time and skills, you play a key role in supporting vital conservation initiatives and maintaining a thriving environment for both our guests and our wildlife.
Zoo Crew members are required to remain active in the program, committing to volunteer at least 36 hours per year. Opportunities include Grounds Assist, Zoo Greeter, Commissary Assist, Hospital Assist, Building B Host, and Events.

Docent
Through interactive talks and educational programs, help connect visitors with wildlife, inspiring a deeper appreciation for nature. Assist zoo staff with education programs such as on-site animal encounters, field trip and outreach programs, tours, birthday parties, classes, and events.
Kim Jones
October 2026Kim has been a member of the Alexandria Zoo’s Zoo Crew for less than a year and has already made a meaningful impact. Drawing on her previous skills and experience, Kim has assisted with events and educational programs that help children develop a deeper understanding of animals, their importance, and the zoo’s mission of animal care and conservation. As the zoo continues to engage and inspire the next generation of wildlife advocates, we look forward to seeing Kim continue to grow and make a difference in this role.
Anna-McKenzi Fleming
July 2026As a Docent Volunteer, Anna-McKenzi has supported Alexandria Zoo in a variety of areas while helping advance the Zoo’s overall mission. Despite living out of town, she regularly makes a round trip of more than two hours to volunteer, demonstrating remarkable dedication and commitment. Her willingness to go above and beyond to be part of the Alexandria Zoo Volunteer Team is truly appreciated, and we are proud to recognize her contributions. We look forward to seeing her continued growth and impact in this role.

January 2026James has been a volunteer for less than a year and has contributed many hours of volunteer time at the zoo. James has a strong passion for the holidays and has been a major help in bulb maintenance for our Holiday Light Safari event. His dedication to volunteering has been seen and valued by our zoo staff, and we cannot wait to see how he will continue to thrive this year.
