Full & Part-Time Positions
Friends of the Alexandria Zoo offers a variety of part-time and full-time guest services jobs. From working in our gift shop and café to driving the train and helping with special events, you'll be a part of the fun. Your work helps support the zoo's mission while you create lasting memories for families and visitors.
Education Specialist
The Education Specialist supports Alexandria Zoo’s education programs and guest experiences by assisting with camps, Stroller Safari, premium birthday parties, special events, and Ambassador Animal care. This position helps create engaging, hands-on learning opportunities while supporting the Zoo’s mission of wildlife conservation and education.
Train Driver
The Train Driver is responsible for safely operating the Zoo train while providing a friendly and welcoming experience for guests. Duties include greeting riders, following all safety procedures, completing daily train checks, assisting with basic cleaning and maintenance, and reporting any concerns to ensure the train remains safe and ready for guests.
Palm Cafe
This position is responsible for providing friendly guest service while assisting with daily operations in the Palm Café. Duties include greeting guests, taking orders, preparing and serving food and drinks, operating the register, handling payments, restocking supplies, and keeping the café clean, organized, and safe.
Zootique Gift Shop
This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service while assisting with daily gift shop operations. Duties include greeting guests, processing transactions, answering questions, restocking shelves, maintaining a clean and organized shop, and supporting merchandising and inventory needs.
Special Events
This position supports the preparation, setup, day-of operations, and cleanup of the Zoo’s special events. Duties may include arranging event materials, decorating, assisting guests, supporting activity stations, helping with crowd flow, breaking down event areas, and ensuring spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use.
Commissary
The Commissary position is responsible for the daily upkeep of the Zoo kitchen and preparation of animal diets. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing dishes, maintaining food prep and storage areas, rotating produce and meat stock, preparing diets according to animal care guidelines, and caring for feeder invertebrate colonies.
