The tayra is a member of the weasel family, which also includes otters, skunks, and minks.
The tayra is a solitary animal, diurnal with activity peaks at dawn and dusk.
On the ground, they run and bounce with the back arched and the tail along the ground. In the trees, they climb and move swiftly, using the tail for balance.
They face threats from habitat destruction and the spread of agriculture. There is not evidence about trapping or hunting of the species.
