Les Whitt Statue Unveiling

The highlight of the day will be at 9:30 am when the bronze life size sculpture of Les Whitt is unveiled. Les Whitt was director of the Zoo from 1974 to 2008 and brought the Alexandria Zoo from a small menagerie threatened with closure by USDA to a nationally recognized facility accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The statue, commissioned by Friends of the Alexandria Zoo, was created by artist Bill Williamson of Tyler, Texas, who was a long time friend of Les.
