Education internship assisting students

Alexandria Zoo offers a limited number of exciting and unique internship opportunities for college students and recent graduates.

Students can gain valuable experience and develop a variety of professional skills in the areas of conservation education, animal care, and photography.

Schedule

SUMMER June–August, deadline for applying is April 12, 2019
FALL September–December, deadline for applying is August 1st
SPRING January–May, deadline for applying is November 1st

Animal Care

This position will provide a well-rounded intern experience for those individuals who are actively pursuing a career in animal husbandry. Aspiring zoo keepers can gain practical, hands-on experience with a variety of species at an AZA accredited zoo while enriching the community through wildlife conservation and education.

Conservation Education

This intern position is an opportunity for students to build career-related skills in an informal education environment. Interns will assist the Education staff with the creation, development and implementation of education programming for a wide range of audience ages.

Photography

This internship is ideal for self-motivated, creative students with an interest in photography and the modern media industry. Interns work closely with the Media Specialist to generate strong written and visual content showcasing Alexandria Zoo's animals, events, and programming.
